ABOUT the GLIMMER exhibition

Glimmer welcomes the viewer into an immersive tapestry garden brimming with life-size flowers and chromatic color; an invitation to come close to nature, slow down and be present.

Each garden tapestry depicts the luminescent light seen in the sky during a specific time of day.

Using a highly keyed color palette and human-scaled flowers, guests are invited into the garden over a 24-hour period to view DAWN, DAY, DUSK, TWILIGHT + NOCTURNE -

to experience how different times of day with shifting light and color might also quietly transform their feelings, perception and emotional state.

First, I imagined & wrote about
a tapestry garden.

I wondered how color, light, and a flower-filled space with human-sized blooms could make a person feel.

*ARTIST NOTES:

THOUGHT PROCESS

What would a person experience as they walked into the garden?

Could the space make each person feel welcomed, delighted,
and surrounded by nature?

Could moving among the flowers offer visitors a moment to slow down, breathe, shift, reset?

Would this leave the community feeling cared for - and more connected to nature?

I ALSO WONDERED ...

EXHIBITION PROGRAMMING +
FAMILY WORKSHOP

Let's Make a Glimmer Garden

ABOUT the workshop:

As part of GLIMMER, visitors of all ages were invited to create small Glimmer garden artworks of their own inside the exhibition space.

Using artist-provided line drawings adapted from the tapestry flowers, participants explored color, scale, and design as they created their own garden panels.

This family-focused, multigenerational workshop offered a simple way to learn from the creative process behind the work, connect with nature and imagination, and share in making together while surrounded by the exhibition.

At the end of the workshop, each participant was invited to take a fresh flower home along with their artwork.

One young visitor offered her flower back  to me - an unforgettable, generous moment at the end of our time creating together.

*A sweet ending:

closing thoughts

GLIMMER was imagined as an invitation to come close to nature, slow down, and be present.

Through shifting light, chromatic color, and human-sized flowers, the tapestry garden became an environment that might quietly transform a person’s feelings, perception, and emotional state.
