Blueprint Botanical (Birch)
Acrylic, Gouache & Pencil on Linen
In the Blueprint series, I was initially interested in constructing paintings strictly from the subtleties that I saw on the surface of my canvas, using my underpaintings as the catalysts for this work.
First, I would create a surface, then âlookâ for the painting. I noticed subtle lines in the surface and followed them; composing strictly from what I was seeing on the canvas â never drawing randomly.
I am really drawn to the lines & curves in nature - especially elements such as tree branches and how they weave through the sky. Such a beautiful structure is created when they intertwine & intersect.
The organic and linear elements that I love finding hidden in the landscape started emerging on my canvases.
